Hardin County Fluorspar Festival

Since 1965, the annual Hardin County Fluorspar Festival has been held in the fall in Rosiclare, Illinois to celebrate the influences brought to the area by the Fluorspar Mining Companies.

Located on the banks of the Ohio River, Rosiclare (once known as the “Fluorspar Capital”), has a colorful history that revolved around this mineral. Each year, the Festival hi-lights and brings back memories of days gone by.

Held on the first weekend in October, in Downtown Rosiclare, the Festival features an ever-growing list of activities and things to do. The event in 2003 included a Queen’s Pageant, a carnival, hickory-smoked barbeque, a pet parade, kid’s games, karoke, food and craft vendors, a quilt show, an open-house at the American Fluorite Museum, a car, truck and motorcycle show, rides on the Shawnee Queen River Taxi and a large parade featuring local school bands, groups, floats, a Grand Marshall and horse clubs. The weekend was filled with local musical talent and a finale was held Saturday evening featuring a large fireworks display at the City Park on the Ohio River.

Contact Information: Please call the Rosiclare City Hall weekdays at 618-285-3445 or write The Hardin County Fluorspar Festival Committee, PO Box 291, Rosiclare, Illinois 62982.
